Which books do it for you?
Wanderlust, a well-known UK travel magazine, have recently asked the question ‘what are your ideal desert island books‘ and we wanted to suggest a few that we have enjoyed recently.
Now, we appreciate any kind of book recommendation comes with a risk. We know we are good at giving advice on choosing your next holiday but are we knowledgeable enough about books? Well we think we have got some good choices so here we go – we are recommending 3 today (1 from each of us here today). Tell us what you think!
Book 1: A Thousand Splendid Suns, Khaled Hosseini – we recently read this in Japan (strangely enough) and thought it was a stunning but disturbing story of two women in Afghanistan. We couldn’t put it down.
Book 2: The Road, Cormac McCarthy – Another tough but rewarding book. The book is set in a post-apocalyptic future and absolutely packs a punch.
Book 3: Norwegian Wood, Haruki Murakami – Based in Japan, this story follows Watanabe, a student in Tokyo during 1969 and his love affair with Naoko, a girl he has known since school. Brilliant, tragic, moving.
